Good afternoon, Dear Managers and all Hospital da Luz Employees! I hereby express my indignation at what happened today, 6/15/2023, at your Institution in Guimarães, which I will describe below: - About a month ago my mother, Maria Emília Pinheiro Pereira; date of birth - 7/13/1948; he had a psychiatric consultation and at the end of it, according to Dr. Dr., the appropriate medication for the case was prescribed. So far, so good. However, my mother, as she was not feeling well with the prescribed medication, decided to schedule a new psychiatric appointment, which was scheduled for today, at 12 noon. Arriving at your institution, Hospital da Luz, we went straight to the reception of the psychiatry service, floor 4, and paid for the "supposed" consultation. At 12 o'clock sharp, my mother was seen... and after approximately 5 minutes the "so-called" consultation was over. Upon leaving the Hospital, but still in your corridors, my Mother informs me that Mr.Dr. he had said "that as it was just to talk about the effects of the medicine he had prescribed and whether he should continue taking the medicine, or whether he should stop taking it, there was no need to pay for a consultation!" Upon learning of this fact, I went to reception and expressed my feeling of injustice to your employee. The latter, with exemplary service, informed us that a "possible" reimbursement would always depend on a statement from Mr.Dr. This one, after receiving contact from your reception employee, dismissed the issue saying "...that's not what I said"!?!?! Admired by Mr. Dr.'s attitude, we left Hospital da Luz!?!?! Having said that, by way of conclusion and to avoid situations of the same kind, we want to record here our deep feeling of revolt, injustice and indignation, due to the fact that we paid and Hospital da Luz unduly received an amount for a a consultation that was not provided! I would also like to bring up here the lack of social sensitivity of those who, knowing exactly the content of the "so-called" 5-minute consultation, and having the power and duty to bring some justice to my Mother's case, thought it best not to do so! Without further ado and with due regards, José Manuel Abreu.

Long live the privatization (commodification) of health! I had the first-person experience yesterday that you can't be sick on the weekend, or at certain times, because it might not be as profitable for the company. I don't understand where such a large chunk of the state budget for health goes, when a person happens to need medical services at 4:15 on a Saturday afternoon and the hospital is unable, or unwilling, to respond. I had to go to S. João to be seen, because while these leeches absorb taxpayers' money, local public hospitals are left without the means to provide an efficient service for everyone, without exception.
