It was the first unit of the HPA Saúde Group and the first private hospital in the Algarve region . It has always excelled in technological innovation, an attribute that it maintains until today by having differentiated and unique equipment in the southern region, as is the case of Nuclear Medicine and Hyperbaric Medicine . Its Cardiovascular Intervention Unit offers a wide range of exams and non-invasive interventions, some of which are innovative in terms of private healthcare. Over the years, it has been able to adapt to the needs of its customers, but also to the demands of technological development. In 2014, the most ambitious reorganization of its services began, through extensive refurbishment of its original facilities, but above all through the creation of a new modern and functional unit, dedicated to outpatient care. In this new unit, spread over four floors and more than 4,000m2, external consultations are available in dozens of specialties and special exams such as Gastroenterology/Endoscopy or Urology. The Rehabilitation and Accidents Unit is spread over several consultation and intervention offices, in addition to a large therapeutic gym designed for all types of acute or chronic conditions.

Terrible service. Got there at 16:45 pm and still hadn’t been fully attended at 21:00 pm. This could be somewhat understandable if the hospital was saturated, but this, however, was not the case. There was a clear lack of working staff (as there were loads of hospital members just roaming freely around the hospital, chitchatting with coworkers and simply not doing their jobs). Once I was attended, the doctor was disrespectful towards the fact that I could not speak Portuguese and even kind of made fun of it. Every step of the process took ages. Plus didn’t even look like they were making an effort to help me. Won’t come back here again.

First I want to pronounce that this review is not about the quality of medical services provided by this private hospital. I did not get this far. My husband and I had holiday in Algarve. Unfortunately, during a horseback ride I fell off my horse and seriously broke my arm. I needed an urgent operation which the public hospital could not provide in the needed time. That is why we came to this private hospital in order to make an appointment with a specialist to erstimate the cost of the operation. Unfortunately, the reception personal made a mistake. When we arrived at the appointment 2 days later, we found that the surgeon was not present. After we refused to come again the next morning, we were sent to the emergency department, which belongs to the same clinic. After 1,5 hours of waiting we could talk to the doctor. He didn't even looked on my hand and after a quick glance at the x-rays from the public hospital, he scheduled the operation for the next day. Then, at the reception, the clinic employee announced to us the cost of the operation: 11.300 euros. No one asked me to provide my insurance or to check the possibility of partial compensation by the insurance company for the costs of the operation. The receptionist scheduled my operation for the next day at 10:00 o clock and suggested that my husband conduct all negotiations with our insurance company the next day directly from the clinic. We agreed, confident that our German insurance would cover at least part of the costs. But when I was asked for 210 euros for the consultation services rendered that day, I could not restrain myself. When making an appointment 2 days ago, I was announced the amount of 80 euros for a doctor's consultation. Now the cost changed to 210 euros, because BY THE MISTAKE OF THE PERSONAL AT THE RECEPTION, we had to go to the emergency department. Only after my indignation due to the cost of services, the receptionist asked for my insurance card. Then he called his superviser. It turned out that our insurance does not compensate anything from the cost of the operation, since this company and this hospital do not have a contractual relationship. That is, if I had not made a scandal over 210 euros, we would have paid 11.300 out of our own pocket. The conclusion is this: the HPA SAUDE group hospital in Alvor is distinguished by the maximum incompetence of Personal at the reception, the desire to maximize benefits, and not help patients in their difficult situations. We managed to fly home to our home town and make the operation there.

Very nice people and very professional doctors at this hospital so the 2 stars are for them. I had a cut in my lip and needed stitches. The very friendly Dutch speaking doctor put in 4 stitches. Good job. But than came the bill. The treatment took 15 minutes, sedation and stitching. The bill: 1100 euro. A totally excessive amount of money for the work done. 2 Years ago I was here also for 6 stitches in my face and than I had to pay around 350 euro. There is something seriously wrong in our society if you wanna make that much money over the backs of people that need treatment. HPA, you should be ashamed. To the CEO of this place, try to look in the mirror and say out loud, 4 stitches 1100 euro, and than keep a straight face.
