3.6
Overall rating: 4
September 16, 2021
These 4 stars are for my wonderful orthopedist and the staff at both general and orthopedic receptions. For the other things, I would sadly give 2 or 3 stars. Necessary process for first time outpatient: 1. Bring referral letter otherwise you need to pay 5500 JPY plus consultation fee and wait for a much longer time than other patients who have referrals and appointments. 2. Go to reception desk number 5 (for a first time patient), take a queue ticket, wait until your number gets called (your number will be called and asked to go to designated desk). 3. Go to designated desk, give all documents (referral letter, appointment paper, insurance card, ID card), receive a kind of device (like a remote control) that is used for everything until payment at the end, wait until the device is beeping (there is text on it asking you to go to another designed desk). 4. Go to desk appointed by the device, take back your documents and newly created hospital card. 5. Go to specialized department reception, give all documents, fill in a questionnaire, wait until the device is beeping. 6. Go to the consultation room written on the device, have consultation with the doctor. 7. After finishing consultation, go to the machines near the big TV, put the device on the machine, touch [はい], wait until the device is beeping again. 8. Go to desk for payment, follow what the staff ask you to do, go to near payment machine, wait again until the device is beeping. 9. Go to payment machine, scan barcode on hospital card, make payment (cash, credit card), take receipt and next appointment letter from the machine. 10. Put back the device into box near the payment machine. Good points: 1. All reception staff are kind and helpful but I don't know whether they can speak English or not (we communicated with easy Japanese). 2. The questionnaire at specialized department reception is available in English (at least at the orthopedic department). 3. My doctor is wonderful, really takes his time, thorough, explains everything clearly with words that are easy to understand. 4. For a consultation with a professor in big hospital, I feel the fee is affordable (2000-ish JPY in my case). 5. The remote control thingy does almost everything. Not-so-good things: 1. Queue is way too long. 2. Too much waiting time, especially for payment. 3. Since waiting time is long, so many people are waiting at the same time but no enough chairs available resulting people are squeezing in near payment machines.

Nice English Speaking Hospital! Awesome service, start from the information place, receptionist, until meet the doctor. It's very nice since I was being rejected by other hospital because I'm foreigner and couldn't speak Japanese fluently. This is a very long review for you that needs detail steps on this hospital. Let us start! After taking a queue number, for the first time coming, make sure to bring recommendation later from clinic or other hospital, or you need to pay 7.000 yen for registration. It will be easier to ask the previous doctor to make the reservation here also, to make sure about the time. Remember to bring your national health insurance. Waiting time in the registration is around 15 - 30 minutes. After getting your turn, they will ask you to fill some forms, and confirm your name, address, phone number, etc. If you prefer using english, tell them about that here also. After that confirmation, you have to wait again, around 20 - 30 minutes, because they will input all the data and insurance. If everything is fine, they will give you a medical card for Kyoto University Hospital and a special plastic bag with hospital map and a small machine with text monitor to give you instruction based on your schedule to meet the doctor. They also will give paper about instruction how to use the machine in english (if you inform about on previous step). Because of this administration process in the first coming, make sure to come early before the appointment time. For the next coming, just tap your medical card in registration machine and they will give you the small monitor machine that will be connected too. Come to the certain place, based on your checkup destination, usually in 2nd, 3rd, or 4th floor, with A, B, C, .. section. Wait until your scheduled time. Meet the doctor. After that, come to the registration machine, and put your small monitor. It will put you in the queue to the payment section (usually to the payment staff, number 05). After waiting a bit, 5 - 10 minutes, you could come to the payment staff. They will ask you some paper from the doctor and process that. You have to give back to them the special plastic bag. If you don't have to pay anything, they will take your small monitor and you could directly go home. But if you have something to pay there, they will ask you to sit, and wait again. After some few minutes, the amount of your payment will appear in your small monitor. For this payment, you could come to the place, looks like ATM center, near the payment section. Put your medical card in the ATM machine, and they will directly show your payment amount. Pay with cash or other payment card. After the payment is completed, you could put your machine in a machine collection place (usually in the corner, on the way out from that ATM center). Done! Although it takes time a lot in the first coming, it becomes easier and easier for the next comings. So, I recommend this hospital a lot! Hope you find a great experience too!

This time, on August 4th, I had my first visit to the department of diabetes endocrinology and metabolism. I received a letter of introduction and an appointment slip from the referral hospital and had a medical examination. Since it is a complete referral reservation system, patients who are completely new to the clinic cannot see a doctor unless they have a letter of introduction and an appointment slip. (This does not apply to emergency outpatient services.) It was Kyoto University Hospital for the first time in ten years. From childhood to high school, I was treated for cleft lip and palate at our hospital's plastic surgery. It will be a medical examination from then on. The outpatient ward, the Sekitei ward, the middle ward, and the south ward group have changed considerably. I was prepared that it would take some time to see a diabetic outpatient for the first time. is given a call receiver. This receiver is a versatile device that will notify you with the melody of twinkle twinkle stars and vibration when your turn comes. Each outpatient has a two-stage waiting system with an outside waiting area, an inside waiting area, and an examination room. It is designed so that patients will not be crowded at once when it is crowded. A sample test was performed again at the next visit, and a sample test was performed at the end of the consultation this time for comparison. I had the impression that the blood sampling room at other hospitals would be quite crowded, but our hospital was relatively empty, and I had the impression that there were many blood sampling tables and that the turnover was good. Accounting is also done only by submitting the accounting card to the accounting reception if you register the end of the medical examination with the call receiver. After waiting for about 10 minutes, the medical fee will be displayed on the call receiver, and you will be notified with a sparkling star melody and vibration. Pay with an automatic payment machine. This time, I was asked to lend out equipment such as a self-monitoring blood glucose meter and measurement sensor, and to issue an out-of-hospital prescription. I have another appointment in a month, so I'm glad I chose this option.
