Legg-Calve-Perthes disease (LCPD) is a childhood condition where the blood supply to the femoral head (the ball of the hip joint) is temporarily disrupted, leading to bone cell death and joint instability. Over time, the body replaces the damaged bone, but this process can deform the femoral head. Symptoms include limping, hip or groin pain, and limited range of motion in the hip. Treatment depends on the child's age and severity of the condition, ranging from physical therapy and bracing to maintain joint mobility to surgical interventions in severe cases to reshape or stabilize the hip joint.
