Founded in 1955, UCLA Medical Center became Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center in 2008, reopening in a new 10-story structure (eight above ground) that takes hospital design to a new level. The latest medical advances are provided in a welcoming environment that is filled with light and open spaces to enhance a sense of wellness and promote healing. Situated on four acres on the UCLA campus in West Los Angeles, the hospital encompasses Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, Stewart and Lynda Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital at UCLA and UCLA Mattel Children's Hospital. This was one of the first total replacement hospital projects to be built in accordance with the latest California seismic safety requirements. Every floor of Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center is dedicated to a particular specialty and equipped with all of the necessary support equipment and supplies. Every floor has its own satellite pharmacy, dialysis storage, respiratory therapy workrooms, and resident doctor sleep rooms. In addition, each patient room has the capacity to convert into an intensive care unit (ICU) to allow for the continuous care of a critically ill patient in one room.

I’ve been a regular patient of several Specialists at UCLA Westwood campus for 3 years. Surgery included I’ve had great experiences here. Staff is polite, systems function well, humane environment. Having spent time in NYC medical institutions previously, UCLA has been a refreshing improvement in service. The ER is less wonderful, with very long waits depending on the time of year. Staff works to accommodate the Emergency patients but it can be pretty unpleasant (coming from someone who accompanied an ailing person).

A family member suffered a stroke, fell, had a brain bleed and was brought to the UCLA Westwood ICU where they performed emergency surgery to remove a blood clot in his brain. After a few days there he was transferred to the neuro stroke unit. His bedside care in the neuro stroke unit was top notch, from the nurses down to the aides and including OT and PT. They were professional, attentive, extremely knowledgeable and kind. I give them all 5 stars. What wasn't as good was the communication at a higher level. We really did not know what his care plan was over the next several days and had some difficulty finding that information. It was also difficult to see a doctor. I call them "ghost doctors"; you knew they were there but you just couldn't see them. After two requests we were able to meet with a doctor and he provided excellent and helpful information. This is important information for every patient and I think the hospital could do a better job of communicating information to their patients. Our overall experience with this hospital was a positive one.

I gave birth to my daughter here in early 2022 & will be giving birth here in early 2024. I wouldn’t want to go anywhere else for OB care. I live in Tarzana so the drive while in labor was not fun & I could have gone to a much closer hospital but I trust UCLA Westwood more than any other ER/OB department & can’t imagine having gone elsewhere. The labor & delivery nurses are compassionate, informative & kind. My Dr. Is Dr. Zapata but she wasn’t on call when I gave birth so I saw another Dr, so sorry I don’t remember her name, but she was amazing and I felt in very capable & caring hands. I recommend this hospital for anyone I know who’s pregnancy for maternal & postpartum care. I’m very surprised the rating isn’t higher as overall the doctors are wonderful, up to date, the nurses are very capable & always warm in my experience. Also, it’s such a well maintained campus with updated equipment & very clean overall.
