I am shocked at how mediocre and overrated this nationally famous clinic is. Even as an international, self-paying client my appointments in late 2022 were continually mixed up and, worse still, the 3 weeks of extensive diagnoses were inconclusive and they recommended cortisone for the pains throughout my body, claiming there was no alternative to this treatment. My pains steadily increased and at one stage I could no longer get out of bed without help. I finally visited a microbiologist in Hamburg who correctly diagnosed the cause, and with a simple change of diet I was pain-free within a week!. I am now completely off cortisone.

The worst childbirth that you could imagine!
Unfortunately, we chose this clinic for childbirth. At the 39th week Dra. Laura Muñoz Saá said me, that labor induction was needed. Although we did not agree with this, but we trusted her words that everything will be fine and that it is better for me and child.
The doctor assured only about the advantages of induction of labor. However, there was not a word about complications and possible consequences. Although everything was written in the informed consent.
After the start of induction, irregular labor began (opening from 2 cm to 10 cm per hour). I screamed from pain and begged for pain relief due to excruciating pain. Everyone just said that I should breathe, and I will never forget the words of the anesthesiologist who came to install epidural anesthesia. He said "all women give birth, what do you mean you can't sit down for 2 minutes?" In those moments, I prayed that it would end soon and barely sat through those 2 minutes of hellish pain. After the examination, the doctor on shift told that the cervix was already fully dilated and the child was in distress. I was told that a caesarean section should be performed immediately.
To go through hellish pain so that it ends with an operation is not the worst. The worst thing is when they start making an incision, and you say that you feel pain, just pain, and not the feeling that something is being done. In response from the anesthesiologist, I heard "don't make it up, you can't feel pain."
No one but me will understand the torments that I went through and that left a mark on my heart forever.
The most beautiful day of my life became one of the worst for me due to excruciating pain and a feeling of helplessness. When you beg for pain relief, which they still think about giving you or not, because they don't believe that you can feel such unbearable pain.
The only thing that was at the highest level was the help of the nurses and the matrons with the child. Thank you very much for your work and help!

My parents have been getting treatment at this place since 2018 and since it's doors first openend then, the customer service and quality has gone down by a lot. They are taking on too many people and they are loosing sight of what matters most: the patient and their family. I lost my father recently and I am sure that his doctors at the CUN could have looked after their patient more in detail rather than making us wait for hours sometimes and the most difficult part was for my dad or me to get a hold of his doctors. The ER room service is also basically non existent. I will never use that Clinic again. Great doctors, latest Tecno but not attention to detail and bad administration.

Private hospital based in Pamplona and Madrid.
It is worth making the trip to attend any of its specialties, which are not few.
In my case, they have given us endless possibilities.
All staff are attentive, they explain each intervention/treatment in detail and work with insurance.
Everything is organized and they have professionals for everything.
Appointments are usually on time, the waiting time in the room is short.
There is a parking lot right in front.
We will repeat and I recommend this clinic.

After one week somebody answered… my french is not perfect and the staff on the phone couldn’t wait until I noted the correct phone number. They just hanged up and I still don’t have a number. Terrible service. They have closed the permanent customer service, admission for appointments from 4pm onwards has to be done at the counter on floor 0 because the counters on the other floors are already closed, which greatly increases the waiting time. Even though I've been coming to this hospital since it opened and I live a 5-minute walk away, I prefer to look for another hospital.

Dr. Joana Rocha Pauletta was extremely rude, condescending and impatient. I waited 30 minutes although I had an appointment, and she seemed to be agitated from the moment I sat down.
I made an appointment with her specifically because her profile said she speaks English. So I waited two months to see her. But when I got in the appointment she continued to not only chastise me for not speaking fluent Portuguese but she was very condescending and rude about it. She continued to communicate with me in Portuguese and then would get frustrated when I didn’t understand. Again, her profile lists English as one of her languages , yet she refused to communicate in English. I had several concerns that I needed addressed regarding perimenopause and her response to each concern was that I needed to see a general doctor.
Additionally their website has an entire page about communication with international patients which makes her behavior and disposition all the more perplexing. Medical Tourism is when people travel for medical procedures, in which case, tourists are not expected to speak the language of the country they travel to.
This was a Horrible horrible experience. If she does not want to deal with native English speakers she needs to remove it from her profile.

I feel robbed. I spoke on Instagram with Dr Paulo Morais (dermatology) about removing a mole in which I sent a photo of it. What did Dr. He told me what it was and that he removed it easily in 15 minutes in a consultation. However, on arrival at the Hospital Clínica da Luz in Amarante, they charged €75 before the consultation. I entered the office Dr Paulo Morais saw the sign again and said he would have to pay €270 to remove it. In other words, I had not mentioned this before, not having gone there prepared, I did not carry out the procedure and I still ran out of €75 in 5 minutes to leave to find out the same and I lost a morning of work. 😔😪 The situation is regrettable, Dr. Paulo Morais deceived me well.

Review of previous review for the reasons I will describe, although I chose to maintain some aspects.
Private clinic where many quality professionals work, however the entire management of this hospital seems to be based solely on traditional, and very clear, objectives: profit!
An institution of this nature must, in my humble opinion, regulate its procedures by ethics, above all.
But that does not always happen.
I do not accept scheduling a surgery with a stipulated price, in prior consultation, and being presented with a bill that ends up being more than double that amount. I paid, it's true, because I didn't take anything that could prove what I'm saying here, even though I had a document at home whose code differs from the one presented to me on the invoice.
But the worst part was how quickly the mini-surgery took place. I ended up not extracting all the "signs" (or warts, which is what they are) planned for extraction, thus maintaining a greater risk of spread. Furthermore, he planned to carry out the action through cryotherapy, and not through scraping, which involved a lot of blood loss, marks everywhere, the impossibility of leaving and other constraints. This was not told to me in the preliminary consultation.
The way in which we are "deceived", because, in my opinion, that is what it is all about, always begins with an initial consultation, which is long and during which sympathy hides the intention of the true final charge, which, in my opinion, does not take place of the doctor's will, but of the objectives to which workers are currently subject.
Here I leave my honest opinion, with the intention that anyone who has a few seconds to read it does not fall into the same "trap". Requiring clear documents, budgets, for example, that stipulate final prices, is fundamental and ends up corresponding to a right enjoyed by users. That cannot be neglected!
PS: Oh, and the date set for surgery cannot correspond to an appointment, let's face it! We should be careful, because if we refuse to accept paying for a consultation on that day, the final price will probably reflect this disagreement, due to some other excuse...

My wife and I have been going to this hospital for a couple of years. We have a family doctor (always late but doctors do have other patients with problems that need intervention, I like to think) speciality doctors for hematology, dermatology, gynecology and urology. They all have a specified amount of time to allot to each patient for consultations so sometimes it seems rushed but they have all been very professional and in almost all cases attentive and caring. The hospital is very busy and i think the receptionists do an excellent job of helping patients.

I had the worst experience in care, I had an obstetrics consultation, and Dr.Ana Branco, who attended to me, was extremely rude, I felt offended, talked about my country of origin and even revealed the sex of my baby, without even asking. If you would like to know, you leave the room completely destabilized, I'm thinking like a doctor who treats pregnant women, doesn't have the slightest bit of empathy! It's a shame to pay so much for a consultation and go through a situation like this! I chose Hospital da Luz, because I believed that there would be excellent professionals there to assist me, especially at such a sensitive stage, which is often pregnancy! But I would give 5 stars to the nurse and attendants who were super friendly and attentive, the opposite of the doctor.

Good experience in the A&E but regular appointments get very delayed. The doctor was 29 minutes late for my appointment. Not a good use of my time.

My experience has been nothing but good. Friendly, sympathetic and caring doctors and staff, that in no way seem rushed or annoyed. Never met a rude or inpatient employee during many visits here.
Clean and tidy establishment.
Big plus for using technology (using mobile App for everything from booking consultations or exam, paying invoices and receiving exam results, all in my phone.

It has been a month since my ginecological ecography, and the hospital still hasn´t delivered results. But the invoice yes, oh this they delivered! I had to go there physically, make a special request (sic!) and after a week still nothing. So I paid for the exam that now i cannot even access to see the results and bring them to another doctor. As far as i know, refusing the access to patient´s own health information is a crime in this country.

I was extremely frightened of losing my sight completely. The hospital staff were very supportive and managed to get me an urgent appointments in the eye clinic with two of their ophthalmology doctors ; Paulo Silveira Rodgues & Ana Rito Pinta Barreiros. I had a horrifying experience with Manuela Soares. I do not wish to post my personal details here, but this woman should NOT be allowed to see patients. I filed a complaint and the hospital said they “investigated” but didn’t contact me or make any attempts to solve this issue. Better to be safe and go to Luz Hospital.

I've been to this hospital 4 times in 6 years and always had a very good experience (as good as it can be while sick or injured). Staff and doctors are friendly, speak English. It's well organized, services are pretty close to each other and we're given good guidance. The service coverage by insurance is excellent, I've gotten out of here with consultation + 4 exams done including multiple X-rays and blood analysis paying only 20€, while clinics charge 70 for a basic consultation.
If anything, material seems insufficient: I've seen cleaning staff having to ask doctors for gloves and my doc's computer froze regularly, stalling the consultation ~15 mins.

I waited for 1h40min for an appointment and it got to the point where they wait was ridiculous, I had already had to cancel my next thing, and felt absolutely frustrated for coming all the way for a consultation, waiting so long to then desist as I don’t have more life to lose on this. The only reason I don’t give it 1 star is that the receptionist was nice and helpful and that the check in was easy.
I don’t plan on going to CUF for help ever again.

They performed the surgery well. But was too expensive, they took far too long for a private hospital and they didn't explain costs.
I cannot dispute the charges without making an account but I can only make an account by going in person.
Not sure if it would be better than a public hospital in most countries

Here is an outrageous thing that happened to us at this hospital:
My wife and I went to the hospital as she needed to be seen relatively quickly by a doctor. We asked how much it would cost and they gave us a price. We accepted, went to the waiting area, saw the doctor and went back to the counter to pay. At this point, they tell us a completely different amount (twice what they had previously quoted) and just say they made a mistake. We explained that we understood but that we wouldn't pay this new price as we based our decision on the previously quoted price... Especially since we waited 2 hours in the waiting room and they would have had the time to come and tell us it was a mistake at which point we could have decided to stay or leave. But they just did it after the fact and expected us to deal with it - I think that this is very very poor business manners. You can't quote somebody one price and then completely change after the fact and expect them to pay. Now we have just received a letter from the National Judicial system asking us for an outrageous amount of money because of this incident which was their fault in the first place. One of the worst example of how NOT to run a business.

To make appointment in this hospital is very hard. I was speaking with one person today, after 6 times calling and nobody responded!! Every time is like this. If you want to make appointment you should call in the beginning of the month, if you call after, they alreday made appointments. If you call first days in month the system is not working. The technician can't open the system?? Hey what is this??
If you can't make simple things, give the work to somebody else !!!! That's not normal.....What is working???? I need to make every month calls and calls. Worthless, they can't make for you even appointment.

Very nice people and very professional doctors at this hospital so the 2 stars are for them. I had a cut in my lip and needed stitches. The very friendly Dutch speaking doctor put in 4 stitches. Good job. But than came the bill. The treatment took 15 minutes, sedation and stitching. The bill: 1100 euro. A totally excessive amount of money for the work done. 2 Years ago I was here also for 6 stitches in my face and than I had to pay around 350 euro. There is something seriously wrong in our society if you wanna make that much money over the backs of people that need treatment. HPA, you should be ashamed. To the CEO of this place, try to look in the mirror and say out loud, 4 stitches 1100 euro, and than keep a straight face.

I have to mention specifically the nurse David de Sousa, who goes beyond his duties to make new parents feel secure. He is so helpful and always kind and highly professional.

After I came out of theatre, I moved to orthopedic ward, some ward5 ..sorry don't exactly remember, but the Nursing staff there was so helpful and supportive they really tried there best, they talk positive they listen you ,understand you and took care of your dignity and privacy, after a week I moved to.plastic OMG the Nursing staff there was like an angles sorry I can't name anyone as they all were the best including an Asian uni student.what a great level of skills and patience the staff have.thank you very much all doctors and nursing staff to fix me up and taking a great care of me.will surely visit in person to pay my gratitude and to say thanks to all once am completely recovered.
Wish you all a very merry x mas and a happy new year.

You've been fantastic!
Your positive attitude and kindness reassured my family that I was being looked after, and throughout my stay I felt I was in good hands.
I am now feeling stronger, and I am feeling much more hopeful about my recovery.
Kind regards,
Saba

We were ask to attend for an elective planned surgery. This is a second procedure follow on from the first. The 1st admission process was smooth with minor hiccups that we overlooked because we were happy with the surgical outcome. The second procedure we were aware that we might be the 3rd listed for surgery. We were advised to attend for pre-admission procedure at 6.30 am. We did as we were told. The nurse advised us that we might be called in at 1130hrs to get ready to be taken to theatre. We waited, waited and waited and no call for theatre or a decency of an update on the delay. We attend RMH at the surgeon request which we know is best with the expert in the field here. We attended as private patient in a public system. We don't have any problem with that arrangement either. But someone who is highly anxious with heighten anxiety and a delay such as this is entirely unacceptable. It further exacerbated with such appalling poor communication. Providing the best health care does not stop at surgical outcome alone, but how the patient and the family made to feel the entire experience will be what constitutes best health care. I don't know this is a result of poor training where empathy is out of the window or complete complacency of the public system. If one were to admit to ED, with no bed within 4 hours will be a red flag. Not until we approached the reception staff we received an update. What has been a good encounter is tarnish by such lack of attention to basic courtesy of good communication. Very disappointing today.

I was travelling from England on a motorcycle with friends to travel through the Pyrenees and the alps, it was the most beautiful sights I’ve ever seen then into the Black Forest, then I had a terrible accident and was smashed up badly, I was take by helicopter to university hospital where they repaired my broken bones, they saved my life, they were very good to me and I will never forget, I was in hospital there and back home for a couple of months, the end result I’ve led a near normal life, thanks to the surgeons who expertly repaired me, I will never forget,

Every time I go there there is a different doctor. This time she spend most of the time typing away and looking at the computer. She was friendly but I got nowhere. For the past two years it's always the same. I have severe pain in my back and a few other parts but it's always a complete waist of time.

Had a relatively minor surgery performed here recently, and can honestly say that my surgeon was a genius! In 24 hours I had more relief than in the last 3 years (and that’s still with swelling included). The nurses in the maxillofacial department were fantastic! So welcoming and comforting - I have an immense appreciation for the doctors and nurses in that department after my visit. Try not to hold it against the staff for long wait times, etc… they really are doing the best they can 🙂

This is the worst ED in New Zealand , 8 hour wait time so far, still have not been seen. not many people here. Patient with sepsis whom could hardly walk, in a wheel chair kept going to counter to ask for help an kept getting told to sit back down. 4 hours later many times going to reception and finally got a bed. Many people complaining, was an absolute nightmare, worst experience ever !!!!!!!

I had a constant pain in my intestine, went there and did all examinations, they told I had nothing, and I should seek psychological help.
I went to another hospital and they found I had a big polypus inside my intestine and they removed it surgically. Finally I feel releaf after 1 year of constant pain.

A big scam, my girlfriend stood for just 4 hours they charged me 700€ , they said will check with my assurance and call me back , but never show up, they took more than 290€ for simple check up, while i have coverage from assurance 200€, the staffing is rude and they don t explain anything. Advice go to public hospital there they will take care of you and never ask for money.
Such a shame , they use people health to get rich

Thankful for the dedication of all the doctors & nurses here. My newborn daughter was seen by ear, nose and throat specialists & speech therapists for a feeding assessment. Both encounters were great, staff were friendly and welcoming. They were able to provide answers & recommendations to us. The only negative was the shuttle service, it’s a great idea. But it was either too full or not on time, and waiting with a newborn on a cold wet day is not ideal.
